Real noob, need real help

Hey, so this is my first time doing anything with linux, and the disk won't work.  I'm trying to use the boot from usb function in Plop, but it hangs there for hours and hours, not doing anything.  Anybody have any idea what i can do to fix that? 
And please, make it as simple as you possibly can.  I know literally nothing about this stuff.
