Hi maybe some one here can help me. I Have an old computer with an ASUS M2A-MVP motherboard, and just for fun im trying to install windows 11 on it for comparison purposes before I attempt a Linux installation (I have never used Linux before). Being that it is an old computer (but still with decent specs) it does not have the USB boot option in the BIOS so im using Plop. The only way I can get plop to work is by using the 'force USB 1.1 - mode 1' setting, otherwise it just freezes when it tries reading the USB drive. I have 2 USB drives, one with a normal windows 11 fresh install downloaded and installed right from the microsoft website (I know it wont work but it should still bring me to the install screen where it tells me it wont work), and the other has a modified windows 11 install created using WinBootMate that bypasses the windows 11 security features to allow you to install it on older systems. I have successfully used both of these USB drives to install windows 11 on different computers. With the current computer im trying - after I choose USB from the plop boot manager, it looks like its starting, but then it just sits at the windows 11 logo screen and I can't seem to get past that. Any ideas anyone?

please try also PBM6.

Best regards

Thanks for the reply. For installing Windows 11, I have downloaded the PBM6 as you have suggested. As I will be burning the ISO to a cd, should I use the iso in the 1_native folder or the 3_4blind folder? Also for either option, I assume I should burn the iso from the cdrom folder?

Thanks for the assistance but this is still not working. I burned the iso you suggested to the cd, the pbm boots fine, but if i start the computer with the windows 11 USB already inserted, the computer will reset the moment i select the USB option from pbm. If i boot with pbm and im looking at the pbm menu, if i then insert the USB drive in the computer, watch it appear in the menu and select it - the computer will then display the windows 11 logo for about 15 seconds before rebooting. Also I should add that the hard drive im using originally came from another computer that had windows 11 installed so im not exactly sure if when I see the windows 11 logo if its from the new install trying to start or from the computer trying to boot from the hard drive.

UPDATE/EDIT: After originally posting this reply, I have gone through the computer and did a windows 7 install just to make sure everything was functioning properly with the hard drive and then to see what would happen when attempting the windows 11 install. When attempting the windows 11 install with the PBM from my original post with the mode 1.1, it just sits at the windows 11 logo after it attempts USB boot. With the PBM6, when i insert the USB after seeing the  PBM boot menu, and select USB it shows the windows 11 logo for about 15 seconds before the PC restarts.

In your first post, you say that you have an USB drive with the Windows 11 installer. Just for clarification, this drive boots with the Plop Boot Manager 5 or 6?

BattleCruiser

Yes I have a USB drive with the windows 11 installer that I have used successfully before with 2 other computers. This USB drive will boot with both PBM 5 and 6, the only difference is that with one PBM the computer will display the windows 11 logo for about 15 seconds and reboot, and with the other PBM the computer will display the windows 11 logo for about 2 hours and then reboot.

Maybe the best solution is to put the hard drive into another computer and install Windows 11 without the features. Then put the hard drive back and see what happens.

Iv'e actually tried that. The hard drive Im trying to use i actually had just installed windows 11 on, on another computer that was only a few years newer than the one im trying to use. Out of curiosity I tried just booting off the HD when i first plugged it into the computer, it said attempting windows repair and then would just reboot. I just today tried plugging that hard drive back into the other computer where I ran the very first part of the windows 11 install, up to the point where it restarts the computer for the first time - I then put it back into the computer that I want to use, and then it just shows the windows 11 logo for 2-3 seconds and reboots.

Maybe its not possible to run Windows 11 on that computer. I don't know. Enough RAM is installed? The RAM modules are fine?

BattleCruiser

I really dont think RAM is the issue, it runs fine with windows 7. The computer has an ASUS M2A-MVP motherboard, 8 gigs of DDR2or3 ram, and an AMD phenom 9950 quad core CPU. I would think it would be able to run windows 11.

Well the CPU might be an issue, but im not so sure. I have windows 11 installed on another computer that has a CPU thats not on that list, it is an AMD FX 8300, and it runs windows 11 just fine. Also, I used 'WinBootMate' to create my flash drive for the windows 11 install - it bypasses CPU / TPM / Secure boot check for creating windows. I also have rufus but on that app I dont see how to disable that stuff when creating a flash drive. And i think WinBootMate is better.

The CPU check is used to ensure that the CPU has all necessary CPU instructions implemented to run Windows 11. When the check is disabled, it does not mean that the CPU is able to run Windows 11. When Windows 11 tries to use an instruction that is not available with this CPU then you get a system halt or reboot. We see the reboot.

The AMD FX 8300 was built 2011, the AMD Phenom 9950 was built 2007. The Phenom has not the same features as the newer CPU FX 8300. It looks like the FX 8300 has all that Windows 11 needs, or there was no invalid instruction call so far.

Look, you have always the reboot regardless how the modified installer is started on the Phenom. You have also a reboot when Windows 11 is already installed by another computer and then started on the Phenom.

Anyway, you can try to start an official Windows 11 installer on the Phenom and enter manually the bypass instructions. Maybe all works fine.

How do I do that? With Rufus? If so- I have rufus but am not sure how to bring up the menu for disabling/bypassing that stuff.
Also- thanks for all the help !

Elmar

You don't need Rufus. You start the Windows 11 installer, when the Setup is running press Shift + F10 to open the command prompt and then use regedit. But I don't post the details. Just search the web for the instructions.

Oh ok, im just not sure how to get to that point since I can never get the installer to start before the computer reboots.
