Hello,
with several troubles I could install the BootManager. And it works mostly...
At the moment I lost a extended partition with 2 logical drives.
By starting windows (starts well) no one of the logical drive (drive D + E on extended partition) will be present and it seems, they are lost .... heaven - please help me ....
What are the reason?
what are correct settings?
================================
physical Settings:
one physical HD
Partition 1: primary Partition, NTFS, Operating System 1 (windows Vista)
Partition 2: extended partition, NTFS, separated into 2 logical drives
Partition 3: primary Partition, NTFS, Operating System 2 (windows Vista)
Boot manager Settings:
Setup => partitions:
label: windows1, select device: HDA, Partition ID: 07h HPFS/NTFS
label: extended, select device: HDA, Partition ID: 07h HPFS/NTFS
label: windows2, select device: HDA, Partition ID: 07h HPFS/NTFS
Setup => profiles => os harddisk 1 => linked partitions:
HDA: *80h windows1
extended
don't touch
don't touch
HDB - HDD: everything don't touch
An additional info:
I look inside the Datenträgerverwaltung and windows show for this extended partition a "nicht zugeordnet" ....
Is it a black Thursday?
How can I restore this 2 logical drives?
did you set the partition id of the extended to 07h HPFS/NTFS? this is wrong. it must be 05h or 0Fh
I did both tries, both with not the expected effects.
I linked in a next try all 3 partitions to the system.
- OS Partition defined as 07h
- extended Partition defined as 05h (also 0Fh)
- windows2 Partition defined as 07h (also 05h)
The extendend partition are not present ...
In windows it is everytime remarked as "nicht zugeordnet"
In another try I set the windows2 Partition to 17h (hidden) => inside OS it is present ...
Everytime both partitions with the different OS are present.
Are the right informations in the MBR? Or in other system relevant settings?
It's desponding ....
don't play around with the id's when you don't know what you are doing.
when your second partition is the extended, the it must have 05h or 0fh. your other two primary partitions must be 07h. you played around with the linked partitions feature and changed the partition entries, so you have to set all three partitions in the profile to overwrite the wrong id's
... everytime the same shit
the actual settings:
Boot manager Settings:
Setup => partitions:
label: windows1, select device: HDA, Partition ID: 07h HPFS/NTFS
label: extended, select device: HDA, Partition ID: 05h extended
label: windows2, select device: HDA, Partition ID: 07h HPFS/NTFS
Setup => profiles => os harddisk 1 => linked partitions:
HDA: *80h windows1
extended
windows2
don't touch
HDB - HDD: everything don't touch
Nothing will change. In windows is everytime drive D & E not present (=> the extendend partition)
My feeling is, some settings will be not stored on the right position.
Following the settings are everytime the same. Must any settings write into the MBR?
How get the OS the information which drives are available?
Is it meaningful to deinstall the bootmanager completely and in a second step to install it again? will be the extendend drives present?

Must any settings write into the MBR?
this is done when you use anything else than "don't touch"

How get the OS the information which drives are available?
with the mbr and boot sectors

when you installed it from floppy or dos then yes. in every other case no, it will change nothing.
go to setup -> partitions -> windows 1 -> change mbr/import data
make a photo of the screen and post it or write down all values you see
I installed it from HD.
MBR:
BP 00 01 01 00 07 FE FF FF - 3F 00 00 00 7E 29 00 19
P1 80 01 01 00 07 FE FF FF - 3F 00 00 00 7E 29 00 19
P2 00 00 C1 FF 05 FE FF FF - 93 78 AD 46 27 B8 1A 06
P3 00 00 C1 FF 07 FE FF FF - 93 78 AD 46 27 B8 1A 06
P4 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 - 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
P2 and P3 have in the second half the same data's. Is this right?
If no, I have a backup image by acronis true image incl. MBR.
how can I see the entries? Then it may be a chance to write it manually in the P2 + P3 Item ...
P2 and/or P3 are wrong.
what are the BP values of the other entries in partitions?
i never used acronis. i don't know how or where they store a backup of the mbr
At each partition the information of Px will be copied into the line of BP

i could tell you a trick, but it would be better to discuss that in a chat, because you have to enter what i tell you and with the forum its too time expensive. see chat at www.plop.at contact
Ok, I try to connect to the chat. But I have now a meeting until 16:45. is it then possible?
I have absolut no experience with chats ....
If you have other solutions => fine
- Habe nun 2 Profile angelegt.
- MBR wie gestern stehen gelassen und kontrolliert.
Boot manager Settings:
Setup => partitions:
label: windows1, select device: HDA, Partition ID: 07h HPFS/NTFS
label: extended, select device: HDA, Partition ID: 05h extended
label: windows2, select device: HDA, Partition ID: 07h HPFS/NTFS
1. Profil
Setup => profiles => windowsMain => linked partitions:
HDA: *80h windows1
extended
windows2
don't touch
HDB - HDD: everything don't touch
2. Profil
Setup => profiles => windows2 => linked partitions:
HDA: *80h windows2
extended
don't touch
don't touch
HDB - HDD: everything don't touch
- Kiste gestartet => alter Shit.
- habe Profil 2 komplett gelöscht & MBR wieder korrigiert
- gebootet => same shit => P2 enthielt die Info von P3
=> P2 enthielt die Info von P3
2. alles andere (extendend)
geben?
===============================
3. Install the Plop Boot Manager to the MBR => hier hinter verbirgt sich ein Reset
1. Profil
Setup => profiles => windowsMain => linked partitions:
HDA: *80h windows1
extended
windows2
don't touch
HDB - HDD: everything don't touch
2. Profil
Setup => profiles => windows2 => linked partitions:
HDA: cleared
extended
*80h windows2
don't touch
HDB - HDD: everything don't touch

mit plpbt4win als admin gestartet
elmar
... wie soll ich's sagen?
Nix is .....
d.h. P2 wird durch P3 überschrieben
P3 wird aber immer ausgeführt und ist verfügbar.
Der MBR ist entsprechend überschrieben .....
Sorry, langsam verlier ich den Glauben.... :'( :'( :'(

bin grad im chat
