Have installed PLOP Bootmanager 5.0.8 to be able to switch between Win-7 and Win-XP and works fine for almost a year now.
Now I'm trying to install SP1 for Windows 7 but get installation error 0x800f0a12 http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/windows-7-windows-server-2008-r2-service-pack-1-sp1-installation-error-0x800F0A12 (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/windows-7-windows-server-2008-r2-service-pack-1-sp1-installation-error-0x800F0A12) .
It means the installer can't access the system partition of the computer's hard disk to update files, probably due to PLOP bootmanager.
I tried the solutions proposed by Microsoft but nothing works.
Please help.
Thx, Peter
hi,
are you working with cleared partitions? if yes, are the not cleared when you install the SP1?

Hi Elmar, thx for your quick reply.
How do I check if partitions are "cleared"??

its in the linked partitions in the profile settings, but when you ask this question, then you do not use that feature, because you have to set it manually to cleared.
are you starting the SP1 exe from windows 7?
how are the linked partition entries in the profiles are configured?

Linked partitions are:
WINDOWS 7:
HDA don't touch
*80h don't touch
don't touch
don't touch
WINDOWS XP:
HDA don't touch
don't touch
*80h don't touch
don't touch
Yes, I'm starting SP1 from Windows 7 (Windows Update).
So the HD has 4 partitions:
1 - Set by system (primairy partition)
2 - Windows 7 (primairy partition, system, start-up, page file)
3 - Windows XP (primairy partition)
4 - Documents (logic station)

1 - Set by system (primairy partition)
whats that partition?
I think it is the system / boot partition (100MB hidden) containing the \boot\BCD database and start-up files.
but you are booting win7 fro partition 2. i am wondering that this works
Yes, since disk management is indicating partition-2 = system and start-up, I think partition-1 is not used.
Should I remove / delete partition-1??
you can set it to cleared with "c", then try the sp1 stuff again
Hello,
I don't think that will help as Windows is real STUPID!!
Windows counts partitions so any Clearing (or deleting) of partitions BEFORE the bootable will result in windows not booting!
To come over that you MUST first edit boot.ini !!
For that reason if posible I install windows on colomm 1 (so I can hide and make visable the other 3 as i like without change of windows).
Problem solved (by accident).
Program EasyBCD --> Re-create / repair boot files.
Reboot --> no PLoP Main menu at start-up but directly starting Windows 7.
Windows Update --> installation SP1 without any problems.
Reboot with PLoP installation CD (plpbtin.iso) --> [3] Boot Manager update.
Reboot --> PLoP Main menu (to my surprise 8) ).
So I managed to install the Windows update SP1 and everything runs smoothly as before, including PLoP Boot Manager.
Thx.
I had the same problem and got it fixed by the disk management method provided here:
http://www.imicrosoft.net/windows-7-service-pack-1-sp1-installation-error-0x800f0a12/
My Windows drive was somehow not set to active so I activated it, restarted my computer and everything went fine..
