Hi,
I have a notebook HP nw9440 (Hard_disk SATA) with WinXP in the partition 0, Win7 64bit in the partition 1 and Data (any operating system) in the partition 2 extended.
I have installed "Boot Manager" last version with a floppy external in the Hard_disk in the boot sector.
To the start I have "Boot Manager" configuration with 2 profiles:
1) WinXP boot partition HDA1, Win7 clear HDA2, Dates "dont' touch" HDA3
2) Win7 boot partition HDA2, WinXP clear HDA1, Dates "dont' touch" HDA3
If I start WinXP it is everything OK, if I start Win7 the operating system not function and stop when the flag of Windows appears to 4 colors.
I have tried then to reverse the profiles:
1) Win7 boot partition HDA2, WinXP clear HDA1, Dates "dont' touch" HDA3
2) WinXP boot partition HDA1, Win7 clear HDA2, Dates "dont' touch" HDA3
If I start WIn7 it is everything OK, if I start WinXP the system it stop with blue screen and the message:
"STOP: C000021A. Session manager inizialization failed. 0xC000035A (0x00000000 0x00000000)".
I have then remove Boot manager.
If I make boot the version dos (from extern floppy or bootable CDrom) of PQBOOT (a product of the by now disappearance manufacturing house of Partition Magic) can ok start the two operating systems!!
I want a Boot Manager and not to have to apply every time to a boot disk (cd or Floppy outside).
Thanks for the attention

when you do something wrong, then don't expect that it works.

2) Win7 boot partition HDA2, WinXP clear HDA1, Dates "dont' touch" HDA3
does that mean
* 80 hda2
cleared
don't touch
or
cleared
* 80 hda2
don't touch
set the labels of the partitions in setup/partitions/... then i understand what you mean with hda2. currently hda2 can be the position or the label

i dont understand what you want to say
did you install those windows or did you restore them from an image to the notebook? both is no problem, but when you dont know how to configure the boot manager, then i need that info.
did you read the examples of dualboot? http://www.plop.at/en/bootmanager.html#ex0
elmar
I was not clear then...
First of all thanks for the fast response.
I have carefully read the examples of dualboot http://www.plop.at/en/bootmanager.html#ex0.
I partitioned my hard disk with Paragon Hard Disk Manager as follows:
I installed boot manager in hard-disk and I start:
------------
FLOPPY
CDROM
USB
SETUP
ABOUT
SHUTDOWN
Boot manager recognizes the 3 partitions:
----------------
PARTITIONS
hda1
hda2
hda3
I created a profile for Xp:
-------------------------
edit profile - Xp
edit label................| Xp
show in main menu...| yes
linked partitions.......|
clear profile data......|
reset change...........|
So I set the profile for Xp:
--------------------------------
HDA *80h hda1
..............clear
..............dont'touch
..............dont'touch
HDB........dont'touch
..............dont'touch
..............dont'touch
..............dont'touch
I created a profile for Win7:
-------------------------
edit profile - Win7
edit label................| Win7
show in main menu...| yes
linked partitions.......|
clear profile data......|
reset change...........|
So I set the profile for Win7:
--------------------------------
HDA.........clear
...... *80h hda2
..............dont'touch
..............dont'touch
HDB.........dont'touch
..............dont'touch
..............dont'touch
..............dont'touch
Then I have the following profiles:
------------------
PROFILES
XP
WIn7
Reboot the computer Plop Boot Manager appears like this:
------------------------------
Xp
Win7
FLOPPY
CDROM
USB
SETUP
ABOUT
SHUTDOWN
If I boot XP everything is OK.
If Win7 boot the system stop at the screen of the flag of Win 7
If I change the profiles:
Profile 1 Win7
Profile 2 XP
and when the computer is:
---------------------------------
Win7
Xp
FLOPPY
CDROM
USB
SETUP
ABOUT
SHUTDOWN
If I start Win7 it is everything OK!!
If I start WinXP the system it stop with blue screen and the message:
"STOP: C000021A. Session manager inizialization failed. 0xC000035A (0x00000000 0x00000000)".
What's wrong?
Thanks
Maurizio
whats the partition ID of the partitions in setup/partitions?
Partition ID hda1 17h
Partition ID hda2 07h
Partition ID hda3 0Fh
set the id of hda1 to 07h in the boot manager. then try to boot the profiles
Ok! Problem solved.
Thanks for the great availability.
A question: Is it possible to hide rather than clear partition in the partition "linked partition"?
Thanks again :) :)

yes, see here (http://forum.plop.at/index.php/topic,1227.msg4363.html#msg4363), but the example is for 2 hard disks, you have to adapt it for your needs
Great software Plop Boot Manager!
I followed the link and created a multi-boot with hidden partitions.
This is the software I was looking for a long time.
As soon as my credit card is charged I will make a donation.
Thanks Elmar :) :)
