Title: PLOP on floppy: attempting to boot from CD on USB
Post by: helmuth on September 22, 2010, 12:03:03 PM
i tripped recently over this tool, and it seems great. congratulations and thank you.

i boot PLOP from a floopy and get all these sexy screens.
PLOP iniits boots to HDA and CD-ROM (the built-in one) flawlessly.
however, i did not succeed booting what i wanted: a CD on USB.

it tells me
LOADING EHCI...
SEARCHING ON HOSTS
DRIVER REMOVED
LOADING UHCI..
SEARCHING ON HOSTS
  HOST 1
  HOST 2
   NEC DVD-RW ND3520
   LOADING BOOT SECTOR

the CD spins up and that is it - nothing else happens.
the CD drive is connected to an USB 1.1 connector on this old ibm thinkpad - no "boot to USB" in BIOS.
sidenote: i have an USB 2.0 adapter in a PCMCIA slot.
is PLOP supposed to work in this configuration at all?

the CD contains GPartED under Linux and boots fine in the built-in CD drive.

thank you for reading this,
and sorry if i am repeating, i saw lots of smilar posts but not exactly this one,

thanx a lot, elmar. nice having contacted you.

that's what i  feared reading a recent post in this forum about usb connected cd, although i was not 100% sure that it wouldn't work.

now i'll try to load the iso image to an usb stick (instead of cd). no idea whether that is feasable at all. will research.

thank you again,
-helmuth.
