Re: Plop Linux Live
Hi,
Mplayer GUI appears symptomatic out-of-the-box and feel it's a lost cause.
VLC can hold a candle to Mplayer and would like to know if it can replace it and become the default 'X' media player?
http://www.videolan.org/vlc/#download
Q: Can it be compiled from SRC?
thx

You can add any Linux program to Plop Linux when you compile it. Some programs need additional libraries, which also have to be compiled by you.

A note about Mplayer GUI: I don't use the GUI. I do everything with the Mplayer hotkeys. Also, I start it always from the shell. The GUI will be removed in the next release.

Currently there are no plans to add VLC to Plop Linux. Maybe, when I have a lot of time, then I will release a build script for people that want use VLC.

Re: Live Plop Linux small & 'X'
Dear Elmar:
It sounds that MPlayer is the only OOTB  app to preview an audio/visual file and must be done on the CLI.

This is the error trapped using this command:

[root@ploplinux ~]# mplayer
Illegal instruction
[root@ploplinux ~]#

Q: Does small version have a media player?
Therefore, please demo a 'HowTo' on attached audio file using small/X . . .
thx

no, but you can build your own small version and add a player.

This error comes on i386, i486 and some i586 machines, because of a wrong flag during compilation. It is fixed in the upcoming release.

When the Mplayer works then just run: mplayer tada.wav
For mp3 you can also use mp3blaster.

Elmar

Mplayer is fixed and has a working GUI in the upcoming version 4.3.2 and in the nightly build.
