No input driver matching `plpevtch'
« on: June 27, 2010, 17:33:01 PM »
Hi!

I'm using a POS terminal with a Semtech ScreenCoder touchscreen connected on an internal PS/2 bus.

I installed plpevtch the way it's described on the page, and this is my xorg.conf:

When I start X, the touchscreen is handled like an ordinary mouse (I can push the cursor around, but it doesn't jump to the spot I'm tapping) and the Xorg.0.log looks like this:

I think the line (EE) No input driver matching `plpevtch' is strange. The driver exists in the directory /usr/lib/xorg/modules/input, so X should be able to load it. Or what does the error mean?

Yes, I compiled the 5.0 source tar from your page with ./configure --prefix=/usr && make && sudo make install

hmm, strange. its loaded by xorg and then xorg tries to reload it and doesn't find it. i have no idea whats wrong. i never had to do with a ps/2 connected touchscreen. i don't know if that is a part of the problem.

Hi,

I have the same issue:

Ubuntu 10.10 x64 studio
HTPC case with SoundGraph 7 inch LCD touch screen (USB interface)

I know that this problem occures when evdev driver is loaded before plpevtch driver. On the other hand, if plpevtch is loaded before evdev, I have the message No input driver matching 'evdev'

Regards

Hi,
I have observed the same behavior when trying to use the driver in a MeeGo environment, and it has defenitely something to do with the evdev driver.

Once I disabled evdev (as I don't need it right now), the driver jumped into life immediately and worked fine.
Maybe this behavior is related to the fact that the two drivers are so similar?

I am quite aware of the fact that removing evdev is not a valid solution for most people, so I don't want to promote this as a fix. I just wanted to mention it here, hoping that it helps you drilling down the issue a bit more.

hi nico,
please post the Xorg log file as attachment when evdev is activated

My xorg.conf looks as you have suggested in the description with the single difference that my section is not InputDevice but InputClass.

Please note that in this example, I am actually using devices which are served by evdev (e.g. Cherry Keyboard). This is just because I had some devices plugged in, which in fact I don't use. These got activated again, once I switched on evdev.
However, whether these devices are there or not doesn't affect the behavior of the touch as such. Evdev is loaded first in any case as there are always some internal devices which I cannot unplug, but which I am not interested in either.
As long as evdev was switched off, these devices simply complained about not being served by an appropriate driver which is fine for me.

The real issue looks for me exactly as described by the others in this thread: X loads the driver correctly (at least printing out the driver information) and then complains about no matching input driver (whatever this means).

Hope this helps you to get some ideas what is going on.

BR

/Nicolai

Hi Elmar,

unfortunately no change in behavior.   The output is exactly the same :(.

I was also a bit puzzled that the driver version is still reported to be 0.5.0, so i first thought that I might still use the old driver, but it is definitely the new one.

it should report 0.5.1
do a "make distclean" in the test version and compile it again. does it sill report 0.5.0?

Hi Elmar,

Strange... it still insists on being 0.5.0 in my environment.
I have added a debug print into the sources, to make entirely sure that I am running the right driver, and the output is as follows (when I switch off evdev, as otherwise I won't see my debug output of course):

Code: [Select]
[...]

[    65.197] (II) LoadModule: "plpevtch"
[    65.198] (II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/input/plpevtch_drv.so
[    65.199] (II) Module plpevtch: vendor="X.Org Foundation"
[    65.199]    compiled for 1.9.0, module version = 0.5.0
[    65.199]    Module class: X.Org XInput Driver
[    65.199]    ABI class: X.Org XInput driver, version 11.0
[    65.200] (**) touch: always reports core events
[    65.200] (II) touch: TEST VERSION.
[    65.200] (**) touch: Device: "/dev/input/event2"

[...]

[    71.983] (II) touch: I am the 0.5.1 driver

[...]

So I am using the right sources, but the driver still registers as version 0.5.0 with X.
Anyway, the behavior hasn't changed which is probably the more important issue.

Sorry...
