I wish to install plop onto an hdd where plop then will default to boot from the usb thumbdrive.

Here is the deal:  I have an HP EX485 server (a WHS server) which is a headless server.  No monitor, no keyboard, no mouse.   I want to overhaul it to run unraid from a usb thumb drive.   I can connect the primary hdd as an external hdd on my local computer. Once the plop mbr is installed, I will then transfer the hdd into the server and it will boot from that hdd, and its plop will then boot from usb thumb drive.

Initially, I burned a CD with plop install image and booted from my local machine with the idea of using the install with its 'change destination harddisk' but the install program doesn't 'see' the external hdd.

I searched this forum and I found this thread about installing plop onto an HDD as if the HDD is actually a floppy. Here is the link:

However, the thread didn't say if it was successful or not.  Is this the way to go?  Or is there a better way to go?  This could be helpful for others -- say for an old laptop where there is no cd drive and it couldn't boot from usb but its hdd can be connected externally to another computer.

hi,
the mbr installation is only possible when the hard disk is detected by the bios
